Tesla Parts Glossary

The terms buyers and importers use — explained in plain English. Sorted A–Z by importance.

General

OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer)
The company that originally manufactured a vehicle or its parts. For Tesla parts, OEM refers to genuine Tesla-supplied components. OEM part numbers are used industry-wide to identify the exact part.
Aftermarket Part
A replacement part made by a third-party manufacturer rather than the vehicle maker. Aftermarket parts that carry the same OE number are engineered to match original fitment.
OE Part Number
The original-equipment part number assigned by the vehicle maker (e.g. 1502088-00-B). It uniquely identifies a part and is used to guarantee exact fitment.
VIN (Vehicle Identification Number)
A 17-character unique code identifying a specific vehicle. The VIN encodes model, year, plant and trim, and is the most reliable way to confirm a part fits.
Fitment
Whether a part is compatible with a specific vehicle model, year and trim. Fitment is confirmed by OE part number or VIN.
MPN (Manufacturer Part Number)
A unique identifier assigned by a manufacturer to a specific part, used in product catalogs and structured data for search engines.
SKU (Stock Keeping Unit)
A unique code assigned to a product for inventory tracking. It lets a supplier manage and locate a specific part in its warehouse.
Trim Level
A specific configuration of a vehicle model (e.g. Standard, Long Range, Performance). Parts can differ between trims.
Facelift / Refresh
A mid-cycle update to a vehicle model (e.g. Model Y Juniper 2025–2026) that changes exterior or interior parts, making them non-interchangeable with the previous version.

Suspension & Steering

Control Arm
A suspension link connecting the wheel hub to the vehicle chassis. Tesla control arms are typically forged/cast aluminum or steel.
Steering Knuckle
The component that connects the wheel, brake and suspension, pivoting to allow steering.
Ball Joint
A spherical bearing connecting the control arm to the steering knuckle, allowing suspension movement and steering.
Tie Rod
A steering component that transmits steering input from the rack to the wheels.
Strut / Shock Absorber
A suspension component that dampens spring movement and controls ride quality.
Bushing
A rubber or polyurethane isolator in the suspension that reduces vibration and road noise.

Braking

Brake Caliper
The clamp that presses brake pads against the brake disc to slow the vehicle.
Brake Disc (Rotor)
The metal disc that brake pads clamp against. Tesla brake discs are typically gray cast iron (HT250).

Trade Terms

MOQ (Minimum Order Quantity)
The smallest quantity of a product a supplier will sell. SteelTiger MOQ is 5 pieces per SKU for mixed orders.
FOB (Free On Board)
An Incoterm where the seller delivers goods onto the vessel at the named port; the buyer bears freight and insurance from that point.
